Pull Up a Chair!
People sometimes ask me how I ended up doing this.
The honest answer is…I'm not entirely sure!
I don't think anyone grows up dreaming of untangling other people's businesses for a living, but somewhere along the way I realised that's the bit I enjoy most. Not websites. Not marketing. The conversation before any of that. The bit where somebody says, "I know something isn't quite right...I just can't put my finger on what it is."
I've always been fascinated by why people choose one place over another. Not because it's cheaper, shinier or because the logo's a nicer shade of blue. But because something just feels...right. It's why I can't walk into a hotel without wondering why they've laid the reception out like that, or why one café feels welcoming before you've even ordered a coffee. Even a Pilates class can have exactly the same exercises as the one down the road, yet people will happily drive twenty minutes out of their way to go there instead.
The funny thing is, I can't switch that bit of my brain off. Thankfully. Because over the last twenty years I've realised those little observations are usually where the answers are hiding. They're certainly where I've found mine.
I've built businesses, run events, taught classes and spent more hours than I'd care to admit staring at websites wondering why they weren't working. I've rewritten social media posts until I could practically recite them from memory, only to think, "Sod it," and make another coffee instead. I've celebrated packed venues and brilliant feedback, but I've also had moments where I've genuinely wondered if anyone was going to turn up. Turns out, both are excellent teachers.
Somewhere amongst all of that, I stopped being interested in marketing for marketing's sake. I became fascinated by people instead. What makes them stay. What makes them come back. What makes them tell their mates, "You've got to try this place." Because that's the bit you can't fake, and it's usually got very little to do with having the perfect logo or posting on Instagram three times a week.
The trouble is, when you're in the middle of running your own business, you become blind to it. You stop seeing what makes you different because you've been looking at it every day for years. I know that feeling because I've done exactly the same. Sometimes you don't need somebody to give you all the answers. You just need someone to help you see the ones that have been sitting there all along.
That's why I don't really do corporate jargon or 47-page strategy documents. I'd much rather put the kettle on, ask a few awkward questions and help you look at your business through someone else's eyes. Sometimes that ends with a new website. Sometimes it's a better customer journey. Sometimes it's a completely different idea neither of us saw coming when we sat down with that first coffee.
That's my favourite bit.
Because once we know what's really getting in the way, everything else gets a whole lot easier.
So if you've found yourself here because your business feels a bit stuck...or you've got a notebook full of ideas but no idea which one to tackle first...or you just know there's something missing...you're in good company.
We'll figure it out.
Together.
